Establishing a new era in the manufacture of boats

The eleven central principles on which the Wonmo Marine boat designs are based were specified by our founder, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who anticipated the launch of an Oceanic Era in the 21st century saying, “a new era is starting; one in which the world will be led by those who take care of ocean resources on the global level, by those who have that technology, by those who have leading positions in the oceanic world.” The design principles are:

Design Philosophy

Absolute safety

Our first priority in the WM Good Go boat designs is the safety of its passengers since it can be difficult to get help in the case of an accident on the high seas. The boats are built to not sink even under the worst conditions to ensure the safety of the crew. The decks and cabins are made to be family friendly and safe for children at all times.

Fast in class

The hull design shall be optimized for speed to the extent that the other design principles are not compromised. From tuna fishing to venturing out to ocean islands, a boat trip can take a crew far from home. The crew may finds themselves needing to quickly return to port due to reports of approaching storms, in case of an accident on the seas, or something else. At these times, being able to travel between the two points in a short time is critical.

Durable but light

The boat shall have the structural durability to hold up under the maximum and periodic loads of all foreseeable marine environments while minimizing weight. A lighter boat can travel faster with lower fuel consumption and can be handled and transported on land with less effort and cost.

Economical

The boat design shall minimize the overall cost of owning the boat by considering production, distribution, operating, and maintenance costs for the duration of the boat’s life. This will enable the purchase and use of the boat by as many people around the world as possible and help to usher in an Oceanic Era.

Beautiful in context of the marine environment

The boat interior and exterior design shall be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer’s eye, especially on the seas, a boat’s home environment.

Comforting even on the roughest seas

Operation of the boat shall be comfortable and intuitive. To this end, the heeling and pitching performance shall be designed to maximize human comfort both underway and in choppy waters. Equipment shall be readily accessible to the user and the onboard environment shall be relaxing and provide a homey feel.

Versatile

The boat shall be easily adapted to the needs of its user whether that means enduring the particularly rough seas of Alaska, the extreme heat of South America and Africa, or the extreme humidity of Southeast Asia.

Optimal for fishing

The boat shall maximize a fisherman’s ability to catch any fish he or she targets. To this end, there shall be ample fighting space with minimal obstruction, provide for bringing back live catches, and space for live bait. The boat shall generally be customizable to the fishing needs of the user.

Family friendly

The boat design shall be safe for children, with protective barriers to prevent them from falling overboard, well positioned handles to hold on to when under way, and storage for keeping sharp objects out of harm’s way. There shall be sufficient accommodation in terms of space and fishing hardware for multiple people, according to the size of the boat.

Enabling range

Ocean going boat designs shall be able to cover the 200 nautical mile distance from the coast to the edge of the exclusive economic zone, linger, and return on a single charge or fill. This allows for users to take advantage of the full ocean territorial area available to countries as a result of the Law of the Sea.

Environmentally responsible

The boat shall be designed and constructed in such a way as to minimize adverse effects on the environment throughout the product’s life. The world is a gift shared by all living things and we need to take responsibility to care for it. To this end, pollution and waste harmful to the environment and human health shall be minimized during production. Likewise, pollution and waste produced during the boat’s operation shall be minimized and the boat design shall encourage environmentally responsible actions by passengers.
